The Augusta Chronicle Endorses Stone

Stone a rock-solid choice for Congress
John Stone is 12th District through and through, and won't have to buck his party to serve us

John Stone is so impressive, so knowledgeable, so commanding a presence and so inspiring that it's amazing he's not already in Congress.

Then again, you wonder if a Congress with a 15 percent approval rating deserves him. The people of Georgia's 12th Congressional District sure do, though. And he might help raise that approval rating.

We endorse John Stone for Congress with great enthusiasm.

In an election year in which the prevailing winds are to the Democrats' backs, Stone is one Republican who could win without a tailwind: The race is a dead heat. And the more people get to know John Stone, the more they realize he shares their values and would be a perfect fit to represent the people of the 12th District, which stretches from Augusta to Savannah and west to near Macon.

Stone was a chief aide to the late U.S. Rep. Charlie Norwood -- a legend in these parts -- as well as former U.S. Rep. Max Burns. He knows the system inside and out, but has not been inculcated into it. He is one of us.

An Augusta native and Rich-mond Academy and University of Georgia graduate, Stone is a former reporter and anchor for WBBQ radio here. Now he seeks to be the voice of the 12th District, and we darn well ought to let him.

Stone is a rock-ribbed conservative -- in fact, he's the former president of U.S. Freedom Foundation, a nonprofit organization looking after the economic freedom of families.

And he knows about families: He and wife Deborah have six daughters and two grandsons.

Stone is a Charlie Norwood Republican: against amnesty and for border security; pro-life; endorsed by the Gun Owners of America Political Victory Fund; for preserving the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman; against the NAFTA superhighway and "North American Union"; for the Fair Tax and against the income tax; against the death tax, which robs from survivors after a loved one's death; wants locally-run schools and school choice for parents; wants to repeal NAFTA and CAFTA and end outsourcing of U.S. jobs; and wants to balance the federal budget.

Stone will be a tireless advocate for proposed new interstates I-14 (Augusta to Natchez, Miss.), and I-3 (Savannah to Knoxville, Tenn., via the CSRA). No one will be a better advocate for the two projects, which could be huge for Augusta's future.

John Stone may have the head-turning voice of an old radio guy, but in truth he sounds like the 12th District of Georgia. He's for freedom, sovereignty, limited government and traditional values.

He won't have to fight his party's leaders to represent you.

Please vote for John Stone for Congress.
