Gun Owners of America Endorses John Stone
October 8, 2008
(Springfield, VA) -- Gun Owners of America Political Victory Fund today announced the endorsement of John Stone for Congress in Georgia’s 12th District. GOA’s Vice Chairman Tim Macy issued the following statement:
“Gun Owners of America Political Victory Fund is pleased to endorse John Stone for Congress.
“John Stone is a strong advocate for Second Amendment rights. He is running in the type of district presidential candidate Barack Obama believes is populated by “bitter” people “clinging” to their guns.
“Although John Stone is a gun owner himself, what he really clings to is the Constitution, liberty and freedom.
“Incumbent Representative John Barrow endorsed Barack Obama who, if elected, would be the most anti-gun president in history. Barrow also has a mixed record on gun issues in Congress -- voting in favor of gun rights when it is politically expedient to do so while at other times toeing the line of anti-gun Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.
“For example, just this year Barrow voted for a bill to repeal the gun ban in the nation’s capitol, but it is unlikely that bill will ever get to the president’s desk. However, he was against protecting Second Amendment rights on National Park Service land in a July vote that failed by a razor thin margin.
“Georgians want representatives who will not talk one way in Augusta and another in the Speaker’s office.
“John Stone is a strong and consistent advocate for liberty and the Second Amendment. Gun Owners of America Political Victory Fund is proud to make this endorsement and encourages gun owners and sportsmen across the 12th Congressional District to vote for John Stone for Congress.”

Renowned Economist Dr. Pat Choate to Unveil Alternate Financial Rescue Plan in Savannah
“Main Street” Plan in Sharp Contrast to “Wall Street” Plan Passed by House and Senate
(Savannah, GA) – Former Ford Administration senior economic advisor and Reform Party Vice-Presidential Candidate Dr. Pat Choate will unveil a non-partisan alternative to the $700 billion Wall Street bailout package during a midday news conference in Savannah for John Stone for Congress, on Friday, October 17.
A financial forum on the plan following the news conference will be hosted by State Senator Regina Thomas (D-Savannah), State Senator Eric Johnson (R-Savannah), former U.S. Rep. J. Roy Rowland, MD (D-Dublin), and other elected officials and community leaders.
“We need solutions beyond what the two parties are offering,” says 12th District Republican Congressional Candidate John Stone. “We can no longer afford to be just against someone else’s plans, we have to start providing real alternatives to the bad economic policies and practices of Washington and New York. Dr. Choate has developed specific policies that can provide those better alternatives for the next Congress in January. With input from folks in our district, we can start developing a responsible plan to repeal the bad legislation that was rushed into law last week with a real financial reform plan that will benefit the entire country, not just Wall Street and foreign investors.”
Dr. Choate holds a doctorate in Economics from the University of Oklahoma, and is a former economics professor at George Washington University Graduate School of Political Management. He has authored over 200 publications on diverse public policy issues such as U.S. competitiveness in world trade, politics, and education. Dr. Choate was director of the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration Office of Economic Research under President Gerald Ford, and was the Reform Party’s Vice Presidential Candidate in the 1996 Presidential election.

Stone Vows to Work for Repeal of House Vote on $700 Billion Bailout
Republican Congressional Candidate John Stone (GA-12) is vowing to work across the aisle to repeal today’s 263-171 House vote to approve a $700 billion bailout of the nation’s imploding financial system.
“We needed emergency action to stem the downward spiral of our markets,” says Stone, “but not at the expense of pouring billions into the coffers of Chinese banks and the same firms that led us to this disaster.”
Stone says the nation should hope and pray that passage of today’s faulty legislation may at least temporarily stem the economic downturn until better legislation can be passed in January, and vowed to work with all interested parties in developing a financial rescue and reform plan that better serves U.S. families and financial concerns.
