Allen Refuses Debates

(Augusta, GA) — In a replay of the 2012 Republican disaster in the race for Georgia 12, Rick Allen today refused to debate primary opponent John Stone in a series of four debates on key issues facing the district and nation.  County Republican party offered both candidates their July 27 monthly meeting for the first debate on immigration. The Allen campaign responded by refusing the entire debate series.

“If you can’t debate the difficult issues facing the nation, you should not be a candidate,”said Matt Mackowiak, Stone for Congress spokesman.   “The voters have a right to hear the candidates speak on the issues before they cast their ballot, and learn more about where they stand than through generic campaign commercials.

The breaking news comes in the wake of of last night’s farewell fundraiser by current and former conservative Members of Congress as Stone returns to his Augusta home as a full-time candidate. House Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee Chairman John Carter (R-TX), Congressman Mac Collins (R-GA), Congressman Bill Jenkins (R-TN, and Congressman J.D. Hayworth (R-AZ) were co-hosts for the event, while Congressman Louie Gohmert (R-TX) provided financial support for the campaign.
